Former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda expressed concern over the Cauvery water crisis in Karnataka, insisting that only Narendra Modi, poised for re-election as Prime Minister, holds the power to address the issue. Speaking at a JD(S) party press conference, the 90-year-old leader pledged to fight for the Cauvery cause until his last breath.

Injustice to Karnataka: Deve Gowda seeks Modi's intervention

Deve Gowda lamented the perceived injustice to Karnataka, emphasizing the need for Modi's intervention. He criticized the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) for releasing water to Tamil Nadu, even when Karnataka faced scarcity. Gowda called for unity among political parties, urging them to collectively advocate for justice in the Cauvery dispute.

Expressing regret, Deve Gowda highlighted that the CWMA never assessed Karnataka's water availability in Cauvery reservoirs. He emphasized the existence of a solution to the Cauvery problem but called for collaborative efforts to raise awareness and address the injustice.

Cross-party appeal for cauvery cause

The veteran politician appealed to all political parties to set aside differences and unite for the Cauvery cause. Rejecting the involvement of politics in the matter, he underscored the importance of joint efforts to seek justice. Deve Gowda, with a commitment to continue the fight during his remaining term in the Rajya Sabha, announced plans to raise the Cauvery issue in the Parliament session on February 1.

Planning to attend the Rajya Sabha session, Deve Gowda reiterated his determination to fight until the people of Karnataka receive justice.
